What do marshmallows, Kicking Bear and white tails have in common?
Holmen Wisconsin Kicking Bear, 2003
It was the event with one of the largest marshmallow fights that I have ever participated in! After Tyler and Seth had handed out all of the bags of marshmallows to everyone to cook over the campfire, there were two bags left one for each to share with their friends. Before I knew it both boys were bouncing marshmallows off of each other and within a short period of time there was a chain reaction and over 300 people were involved in a marshmallow fight! It went on for who knows how long. It looked like the ground was covered in snow and everyone was laughing!
Troy Maier, Seth's Father, has been a great supporter of the Kicking Bear Program in helping mentor kids at the campouts and shoots.
Here is a story of Seth's first white tail hunting adventure:
It was finally time! I've hunted with my Dad a "million" times, but now I could actually carry my own bow!

Today is opening day of bow season. We didn't hunt because it was raining. I was kind of bummed, but Dad said we would go on Sunday. Dad won't hunt in the rain because it's too hard to follow a blood trail and track a deer.

Dad and I had already scoped out the area we were hunting and decided on taking an evening stand. We were in our stands at about 3:30 P.M. and sat for about an hour when we spotted a buck in a field about 80 yards in front of us. A few minutes later I caught movement to my right so I grabbed my bow. The buck was slowly walking towards my stand. Then what seemed like forever, I had to wait for him to take a few more steps so I could draw my bow. The deer finally turned and gave me a quartering away shot. I drew my bow and let the arrow go. The arrow hit the deer and it took off running, so now we had to wait some more. After about half an hour we got out of our stand. I wasn't too sure of my shot, so when we found my arrow and a blood trail Dad said, " Let's let him alone for the night".

After we got up this morning my brother, Dad, Grandpa and I went to find the deer. We started where we had last found the blood last night. We found a few drops of blood every once in a while. Then we found a puddle of blood. A few minutes later we found no blood. Then we got worried. A few steps further, my brother found some blood and the blood trail got better. We walked towards a barbed wire fence and found the deer lying next to it. He was a 6 pointer. One neat thing about this hunt was that we got a picture of this deer in velvet with a trail camera earlier this year. By Seth Maier
