LaCrosse Area, Wisconsin
Kicking Bear Event
August 25th and 26th, 2006

About the Sponsor,

This will be LaCrosse Archery's third year hosting a kicking bear event.  The event has grown in size each of the past two years and we are expecting this year's turn out to follow that pattern.

LaCrosse Archery is located at  1231 Oak Forest Drive in Onalaska Wisconsin. They carry some of the best archery equipment in the tri-state area. It's fully equipped service area features state of the art equipment to meet today's high tech performance needs.  Their knowledgeable staff can help you select the best equipment for your individual archery needs.  The facility also houses two indoor archery ranges with 26 shooting lanes, as well as a Dart Video System.

LaCrosse Archery provides lessons for both youth and adult archers. Archery leagues include target, hunter, as well as Video.  Last years youth league involved all three target types, and great fun was had by all. Birthday parties can also be scheduled with exclusive access to one of the indoor ranges.

LaCrosse Archery is holding a 3D archery shoot on the weekend of August 5th and 6th, with all proceeds from the event going directly toward this Kicking Bear event. Information regarding the 3d shoot can be found here.

About the Event

Kicking Bear One-on-One is a nationwide mentoring program developed by world-renowned bow hunter Ray Howell. The program encourages sportsman to get involved with today’s youth by becoming mentors.  The campouts are a way to introduce our youth to the outdoors and the sport of archery.  It’s target is helping underprivileged children or any child who hasn’t been introduced to the outdoors in order to give them a mentor to look up to. By encouraging others to reach outside their homes and become mentors, we can help put dreams in these kids hearts that will change not only their lives, but their families lives to come.

Camp activities are chosen to involve, challenge, uplift, and educate. Children arrive at Camp Friday afternnon. They get acquainted, and set up their tents, play games, enjoy a nature walk, eat dinner, go for a hayride, and bask in the glow of a large bonfire before an optional night hike and tenting down for the night.

After Saturday morning breakfast, activities include safety instruction and archery practice. After lunch there is a presentation ceremony, then clean up and departures.
