| With
your feet: use a pair of cloth shoe covers designed to keep your steps quiet. For sitting
in a tree stand and moving to and from a tree stand--use rubber
boots sprayed with Wildlife Research Center's Scent Killer Spray. Be sure and spray the bottoms of the boots too.
For your legs:
Use knee-high wool socks to keep the
noise down when walking through the brush.
Outer clothing:
Should use a material such as camo
fleece or a wool-type material. This will eliminate 99% of the
noise encountered from brushing up against brush and tree limbs.
Tactics in general:
Always keep the wind
in your favor, and if at all
possible, spray your clothing and equipment with Scent Killer spray. It will keep
human odors down.
Your bow should be
covered with a camo cloth tape to
keep any kind of reflection from the sun off it.
Use any kind of sound-dampening
equipment on your bow so that when you make the shot, the animal
will not hear it coming.
Use a scentless face
camo to help keep the shine of
your face concealed.
While stalking your
prey, do not be in a hurry. Wait
for him to make the mistakes, then you capitalize on
them. A lot of times, you can get too anxious to get
the shot and actually "blow" an opportunity very
easily.
Use the landscape to
your benefit and never silhouette
yourself.
Use a powder-device
to be able to constantly check the wind direction. And always
remember that one set of eyes is a lot easier to stalk up on than
several sets.
You will find many more ideas on being stealthy in Wildlife Research Center's booklet, "Scent Free Secrets".
