Fate plays
her hand in ways we mere mortals can never comprehend. We can
only watch and wonder. Ray
Howell's polar bear hunt is a text book example.
In the first place,
Ray wasn't even scheduled for his hunt till 2003. However, when
Team PSE member Pat Aucoin broke his arm a few weeks before his
2001 polar bear hunt he didn't stop to feel sorry for himself;
he just picked himself up and called his buddy Ray and offered
the hunt to him.
Ray accepted and immediately
began his preparation. There were a thousand details to take care
of, airline tickets, tags, fees, licenses, cold weather gear,
cases of hand warmers, and more cold weather gear. You don't want
to be standing in the Arctic 150 miles from the magnetic north
pole, with temperatures hovering at 60° below and realize
you left your mittens back in Minnesota.
So, turn your air conditioner
on high, chew on some ice, and sit back and enjoy this polar bear
adventure as only Ray Howell can tell it. |
